Editorial Policy
By Avery Brooks · Last reviewed ExoRank follows three rules: contestable claims need sources, evidence type must remain visible, and every product must be evaluated against consistent criteria. Missing or conflicting evidence is reported instead of smoothed over.
Evidence hierarchy
Regulator records, official manuals, and exact-model technical documents lead. Current store pages support price and availability. Manufacturer pages support attributed claims. Independent field reviews contribute observed fit, noise, behavior, endurance and ownership experience. Conclusions remain tied to the strongest relevant source rather than blending every source into one level of certainty.
Exact models and dated records
Specifications are attached to a model, generation, market and verification date. Family-level claims are not silently copied to every variant. Price, availability, firmware, warranty and included equipment are treated as volatile facts and rechecked when they can materially change a recommendation.
Segment boundaries
Consumer outdoor devices, industrial systems, regulated medical devices, and research prototypes are not interchangeable. We do not rank a recreational hiking product against a clinical rehabilitation device, and we do not recommend consumer products for a condition, disability, recovery, or workplace safety outcome.
Missing and conflicting evidence
An empty field is not permission to estimate. When sources use incompatible definitions, ExoRank preserves the original basis; when credible records conflict, the disagreement remains visible until it can be resolved. Independent observations can add context but do not convert a manufacturer claim into a measured universal result.
Corrections and editorial independence
Material corrections update the page, evidence ledger, and ranking where necessary. Brands cannot buy placement, a stronger verdict, or the removal of a documented limitation. Commercial relationships are disclosed separately and do not replace the published eligibility and comparison criteria.
Readers and manufacturers can identify a correction through the contact page. A useful correction request names the exact URL, disputed statement and supporting primary record.
