Why this term matters
Knee-focused devices may target climbing, load carriage, or gait support differently from hip systems. Their per-leg weight, joint alignment, and strap fit need to be evaluated explicitly.
How to evaluate it in a product claim
- Identify whether support acts during knee flexion, extension or a specific gait phase.
- Check left/right unit weight and whether the quoted mass is per leg.
- Review alignment, cuff placement and range-of-motion instructions.
- Keep recreational, occupational and medical knee devices in separate evidence sets.
What it should not be confused with
Knee assistance is not automatically knee protection, injury prevention or rehabilitation. Those claims require evidence for the exact product, intended use and population.
